Job Advertisement – PALAU
The Republic of Palau, an independent nation in the western Pacific renowned for its natural beauty, is seeking a qualified and dedicated candidate for the position of Assistant Attorney General. In addition to assisting the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment (MAFE), the successful candidate will serve as the Republic of Palau’s Environmental Law Fellow in a regionally coordinated Micronesia Environmental Law Fellowship Program.
The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from an accredited college or university, have at least one (1) year of paid/unpaid work experience in a relevant field, and must be able to practice law in the Republic. Membership/Good standing in a state/national bar is required. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Constitution of the Republic of Palau, and the environmental framework, policies, laws, regulations and administrative rules of the Republic. Prior study in administrative and/or environmental law, and experience in civil or criminal enforcement experience is desired.
The incumbent’s primary work location will be at the Strategic Support Services Policy Section of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment and they will directly report to the Minister and the Attorney General of the Republic of Palau. The primary objective will be to assist the MAFE by providing legal support in enforcement, agriculture, fisheries, protected area networks, environmental and Palau National Marine Sanctuary sectors.
The successful candidate will have to commit to a minimum of 2 years and will receive a salary of approximately US $45,000 – $55,000, depending on acquired experience and qualifications. Specific details and the employment Terms of Reference will be shared once the recruitment process has started.
