DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a webinar to discuss the Impacts of COVID-19 on Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the Pacific. Please click here to register for this webinar. \nThe panel discussion will be chaired by the Samoan Attorney General\, Ms Savalenoa Mareva Betham-Annandale and will contain presentations from Ms Stephanie Dunn of the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre\, Mr Frank Fuaava\, Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre and Ms Marcia Kalinoe\, Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee\, PNG.  We welcome any questions ahead of the event by emailing pilon@pilonsec.org. \nAbout the panelists \nMs Stephanie Dunn is dedicated and passionate about working in an environment which promotes access to justice and works towards eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls.  Stephanie was admitted to the Fiji Bar in August\, 2013 she was with the Fijian Legal Aid Commission before joining the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) as a Legal Officer in 2017. Since joining FWCC\, Stephanie has been contributing to the fight towards elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls as well as promoting equal rights and opportunities for women.  Ms Dunn will present on the particular challenges facing Fijian women and girls during the pandemic and associated lock downs and curfews in Fiji. \nMr Frank Fuaava joined the Ministry of Customs and Revenue in Samoa as an Investigations Officer in 2018. Prior to this Frank was with the Samoa Police Service for a period of seven years.  Mr Fuaava is currently undertaking a six month secondment to the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre (PTCCC) in Apia\, Samoa. The PTCCC is part of the Pacific Transnational Crime Network\, a multi-agency law enforcement approach to combatting transnational crime in the Pacific. The PTCCC produces an annual assessment on behalf of the PTCN on transnational crime in the region and Mr Fuaava will be speaking to some of the findings and recommendations from the assessment. \nMs Marcia Kalinoe is the National Coordinator of the Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee in PNG.  Marcia will speak about some suggestions in PNG for Policy Development and Legal Reform\, following the tragic murder of the late Jenelyn Kennedy by her partner.  Ms Kalinoe will also speak about some of the advocacy and communication messages to the community in PNG about family and sexual violence during COVID-19.

SUMMARY:PILON Webinar – Mutual Legal Assistance: Electronic Evidence and Cybercrime
DESCRIPTION:As the world becomes increasingly borderless and crime is more transnational in nature\, Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) plays a crucial role in enabling effective cybercrime investigations and prosecutions. The PILON Cybercrime Working Group has developed the ‘PILON Mutual Legal Assistance Handbook: Electronic Evidence & Cybercrime’ as a resource to assist criminal justice practitioners in the Pacific with these challenges. \nGuided by content contained in the handbook\, the webinar will provide an overview of the MLA process including: \n\nThe relationship between MLA and cybercrime\nAdvice on making a request\nThe importance of MLA to criminal investigations and prosecutions\nThe process of gathering electronic evidence.\n\nAdditionally\, panellists Senior Legal Officer Kilby Baker from the Australian Mutual Assistance Central Authority and Merran Cooke\, Crown Counsel and Mutual Assistance Coordinator at New Zealand Crown Law will discuss two case studies from their MLA experiences\, with the view to enhancing participants’ understanding of the MLA process in practice.
